Busy, Busy Week

It seems like this has been a busy week. Rick was not able to go to Dayspring Tuesday for his weekly magnet treatment. And I had several things scheduled for that day. Cheryl & I have been attending a 2 hour class for caregivers, "Powerful Tools for Caregivers" on Tuesdays now for 4 weeks. It is a class teaching me how to take care of myself. I also had scheduled a training in the afternoon and then I was to go to Durham, about 1.5 hours away, for a dinner with my sales consultant and PRN nurses to demonstrate the new injector that has just come out. So I had to find something for Rick to do. I had already talked to Tamara and Cheryl about his care for the evening and Cheryl was going to have him over. I thought of our good friends, George and Candi Dull, and thought that maybe Rick could be with George in his activities of the day. He agreed and picked Rick up about 9:30 in the morning. I was going to get Rick about 3 or 3:30 pm and take him over to Cheryl's while I went to Durham. Well, my training took longer than I had planned and when I went out to my car to come home I realized I had locked my keys in the car. What a bummer! So I had to call Cheryl and ask her if she would go to my house and get the spare keys and bring them to me. I had to wait at my patient's house for about 30 + minutes before I could leave. Then I had to go directly to Durham to be there in time. I called George and Candi and they agreed to let Rick stay with them until I got back home. I asked Rick what he wanted to do, go to Cheryl's or stay with George and Candi and he chose to stay with them. When I did get home about 10:15 pm, he seemed to have enjoyed himself. He was ready to come home and get in the bed. It was way past his usual bedtime of 9:00 pm.

Wednesday we had dentist appointments so he was late getting to the center and I was late getting to work.

Thursday, his regular day to stay home, it snowed in the morning. It was a beautiful 1/2 inch of snow. We got up early and took pictures before the sun had a chance to melt it away. But that kept Rick inside all morning. He did get out in the afternoon to rake. He is really wanting to get rid of the pile of leaves in the back of the yard. But it seems the more he works at it the more leaves there are. He hasn't even attempted to rake the leaves in the front yard. I did notice the other day that we have daffodils, crocus and tulips poking their heads up through the ground. I'm looking forward to seeing what spring will be like in our new yard.

We babysat Mara Thursday night. On the way to Tamara's house I could tell that Rick was not happy. I asked him if he was angry and he said a quick and abrupt, "Yes!" When he could finally get out why he was mad he said, "You are always doing things without telling me." Of course it didn't come out in quite that clear a sentence. I figured out that he felt that I hadn't told him we were going to babysit Mara. I forget to keep reminding him of what we are doing. I have got to get better with that.

Then today Rick had his appointment with the thyroid doctor. We were there about 9:30 and didn't get out until about 11:45 am. Dr Cantley examined his thyroid extensively and then did an ultrasound on it and decided to biopsy the 2 nodules. He told us that he didn't feel there was anything to worry about. He said most nodules are benign with only a few being malignant. But he wanted to be sure. So he did the procedure right then. He stuck a needle into Rick's neck right beside his Adam's apple about 4 times. He told us that most patients said it didn't hurt and sure enough Rick said it didn't hurt. Rick was very patient but said a couple of times, "I don't know why I have to go through these things." I joked with him about how he used to tell his patients that "It's just going to be a little poke." and "I'm sure I won't feel a thing." He laughed a little but I could tell that it didn't take away his nervousness. After it was over with he was fine. We should hear back on the biopsy by Wednesday or Thursday.

So we just got done in the doctor's office in time for me to get Rick to the Center and me to go to the support group that we are attending on Fridays. Then I had to get home to get some work done. I don't feel like I have been able to get much quality work done this week. There have been too many interruptions. When Tamara brought Rick home I got him right out to the barber for his beard trim because I have a Beta Friends meeting tomorrow morning and won't be able to get it done then. Then we came home and I fixed supper and came back to work. I worked until 9 pm. Rick decided he was ready to go to bed at 8 pm tonight. So he is sleeping now.

We are supposed to get some snow tonight or in the morning. I'm not sure how much. The most of the cold weather is going to be west and north of us. I would like a nice snow of about 5-6 inches. I'm hoping the storm will fool the weatherman and give us some good winter for a change. Not ice, just snow.

I will post some pictures of our first snow in our new house on our picture blog: www.rijoyce.blogspot.com.
