In the lock up

AMRI, Advanced Magnetic Research Institute, was full today, so Rick was unable to go for his weekly magnet therapy. Today was the last class of 6 that I have been taking for caregivers. I asked George Dull again to have Rick with him for the morning. It is good for Rick to be able to be with his friends from time to time. Thank you, George, for your kindness.

After I picked up Rick, we had to go back into Winston to pick up our taxes. On the way there we got behind 2 fire trucks with their sirens on. Rick said, "I hope I haven't caused any trouble." I assured him that he didn't. Then on our way back through town he said, "I hope I didn't do anything I wasn't supposed to." I asked him if the fire trucks bothered him. He said, "Yes." I again told him he didn't do anything.

When we got home, I thought he would want to go out to rake in the yard. Instead, he sat in my office with me. When I asked him if he wanted to go rake, he would say, "Yes." but not go anywhere. Then he said, "They aren't going to take me anywhere, are they?" I said, "No." and I explained that We were here together and that we were going to a Valentine's Day Banquet tonight at Erin's church. He said, "That makes me feel better." Then he went outside and raked.

Bev, Rick's sister, flew down from Vermont to be with Rick for his birthday (2/15/46). Tamara brought her here and Rick was surprised and glad to see her. Since we had the banquet to go to, Tamara agreed to have her go over to Tamara's for supper and the evening.

Rick and I rode with Cheryl and Jeremy to the banquet. On the way home, he asked me if I knew if they were going to take him and lock him up. I told him he wasn't going anywhere. I said, "Stay with me honey, and you won't need to worry." He immediately said, "and we will go places." And we laughed.

Then Rick and I had to go into Winston to pick up Bev from Tamara's house. We were on the interstate and we passed a parked police car. It was hard to see because it was dark and it wasn't until we were right on it that we realized it was a police car. I said, "That was a police car." and Rick said, "Yes, I saw it." I said, "Well he didn't want me because I wasn't going too fast." After a little bit Rick said, "Do you think they will come and lock me up?" I said, "No, they are not going to lock you up. We are going to get Bev and then go home." He said, "Oh, that's right. You did tell me that."

When we got to Tamara's house, he didn't want to get out of the car. I asked him what was wrong. He was again afraid of being locked up behind bars. I again had to assure him that he would be staying with me. Then he was able to get out of the car and go into Tamara's.

When we got home and it was time to go to bed, I was helping him get into the bed. He said, "I would like to have prayer about..." I was finally able to get the idea that he wanted to pray that he would not get locked up. We prayed that the fear would be gone and that Jesus would flood him with peace and joy. I told him that he would not be going to the center tomorrow so he could be with Bev. He asked, "Has that already been decided?" I told him it was. Then he was able to get into the bed and go to sleep.

I'm not sure why he was so obsessed with being locked up. I hate for him to be so scared. I don't know what to do about it. Pray more, I guess. Thank you, Jesus, for your peace and strength.

That's a new one. He hasn't talked about feeling afraid he'd be locked up before.

(I am a fellow alumni from Southeastern with Tamara) Your blog really touches me. It is so personal, yet it brings others into a situation we may or may not face (from one side or the other). My prayers are with you both and the whole family. I cling to the knowledge that Jesus is faithful when I think of you.
