September 2006

Again it has been quite a while since I have posted anything. It seems that things get busy and I just don't get to it.

Rick and I made another trip to Vermont. We flew this time. Yes, our arms got pretty tired! :o) I was very pleased at how well Rick did. The biggest thing that worried me was taking him to the bathroom. When we got to the Greensboro airport and checked in, I asked the lady at the gate counter if there were any family bathrooms. She said no, but offered to stand at the bathroom door to keep people from coming in until we were done. So shortly before it was time to board, we made our trip to the bathroom. She stood at the door for us. But when we came out the cleaning lady had put up the strap to keep people out. It was a very nice thing they did.

Each of the legs of our trip were only about an hour to an hour and a half so Rick didn't need to go to to bathroom on the plane. I don't know what I would have done if he wanted to. There is hardly room for one in there, much less two.

When we arrived in Philadelphia, I thought to myself. This airport is too big to have someone who will keep people out of the bathroom for us. So I was just going to take him in the ladies room with me and just put up with the stares. But just as we were ready to go in I saw a companion care restroom in between the ladies and the men's rooms. Oh how nice that was. The room was large and easy to move around in and we had it all to ourselves. So he was ready to fly the last leg of the trip.

We were flying into Hartford, Conn this time because it was the cheapest flight. Rick's niece lives pretty close to that airport and Bev, his sister, goes there quite often to visit them. So it worked out very nicely. Hartford also had the companion care restrooms. It was so nice.

We left from the airport to go right to Vermont. But we took our time. We stopped to eat at a very nice Italian restaurant. Rick wanted to stop and talk to everyone. I would be walking thinking he was following me and turn around and he had stopped to talk to some stranger. I know he didn't say much because he can't complete a sentence. Everyone is very nice to him.

We stopped at the Yankee Candle Factory. That was quite an experience. Each room was decorated with a different theme for Christmas. There were all kinds of decorations. We looked but didn't buy.

Then we stopped in Brattleboro to get gas and dessert. Wonderful homemade brownies! Yum!

The last stop was at the Vermont Viet Nam Veterans War Memorial. We took several pictures there. We finally got to Bev's place about 8:00 or so.

The rest of the time we spent visiting with relatives and friends. It was a very nice relaxing time. Rick seems to remember the places and the people. His high school buddy, the doctor that worked with him in Viet Nam, who is now working there in Montpelier, his cousins. It was a very good time.

I will post the pictures when I can.

We just got back from Vermont when I had to leave to go to Texas for my work. I was gone 3 days. Erin has moved back home because her roommate got married. So she took care of Rick while I was a way. Cheryl helped with meals and evening care. Rick did pretty good for them.

I have again been vacillating about assisted living. There are times when I think he knows too much yet to put him in a facility. Then I think about him getting anxious and I can't calm him down, about not getting a full nights sleep, and his getting anxious at the center at times, that makes me think it is time. Then I feel guilty about even wanting to put him in a facility. I should want to keep him at home and take care of him. So I have put it in God's hands. I have asked Him to work all the arrangements out in His time. He has taken care of us so far and I am sure He will continue to do so.

Rick has actually leveled off some now. We have taken him off his Alzheimer's meds - Aricept and Namenda. Now he is taking Risperdal. This is an antipsychotic drug that helps to level the moods. It has helped tremendously. There are times when he gets anxious still but most of the time he is pretty level. I don't feel as stressed or tired out as I have. That is good.

Another good thing is that I have gotten my work tasks caught up. So I am not as stressed about that. But I still need to keep working steadily so that it doesn't get out of hand again.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about what Dr. Pearce has found out. He has been in contact with a doctor who has discovered how to analyze patients with a digital picture of them. The computer can detect frequencies in the person through the picture. (This sounds far out, doesn't it?) Anyway, Dr. Pearce took Rick's picture at our last visit there and sent it to this doctor. The doctor has analyzed it and come back with his report. He says that he found arterial plaques and calcifications. He found parasites in his brain - in the cerebellum and cerebrum. The parasite is an unknown worm. Also he said that Rick has a parasite induced anxiety. Then Dr. Pearce said, "Dr. Hunt has written something on the report that I have never seen before. He wrote, 'These brain worms are killing him.'"

A little background. This is similar to homoeopathy but at a higher level. He scans the picture into his computer and the computer picks up energy signals that are conveyed from the picture. Everything has its frequency - germs, bacteria, viruses, etc. So if a person has these things it gives off its signal. Well, how he can get all of this just through a picture, is beyond me.

Anyway, this doctor has prescribed a 3 phase recovery program for Rick. It is 90 days in length. He has formulated patches that have frequencies in them that go into the body to eradicate the bad things there. They are considered harmless to the human body. There is a patch for circulation, one for memory, one for parasites, for healing and restoration and stress. We are going to see Dr. Pearce on Monday to find out more about this and possibly get started on treatment.

At least we have something to pray against, now. Rick has said all along that he picked up something while in El Salvador. Who knows. God allows people to learn these things. He gives all knowledge. We will see what becomes of this. Thanks you, Lord, for your wisdom.

Well, thanks for listening to me ramble. God is good all the time. I am thankful for all His benefits.
