Help is on its way

101408 I got a call from Diane at the VA. She is in the daycare division. She said that they can provide temporary help while I am recouping from the broken arm. She is looking for an agency that will provide help in the morning from 6:30 to 7:30. Yeah!

101508 Dr Pearce called. He said Rick’s Dilantin level is 26.5. We decided to keep him at the same dosage at this time and repeat the level in 3 weeks. He doesn’t seem to have any signs of toxicity at this time.

Broken Arm

I increased Rick’s Zoloft back up to 50 mg daily on 092608.

I fell Thursday evening (100208) at 5:30 pm and broke my left humerus. This has made it difficult to take care of Rick. It is hard to get him washed and dressed with one hand. Getting his shoes and socks on is hard, as well as buckling his pants. Most of the time I don’t put a belt on him.

Sunday morning, 100508, he had a seizurish spell lasting 15=30 minutes. He has those little jerks several times and was very agitated. I finally got him to lie down with his pants half on and no shirt. He eventually went to sleep and slept while I got dressed. When he woke up he was ok.

Yesterday morning Rick became very resistant. He wouldn’t let me help feed him the last of his cereal and milk. I tried to give him the liquid vitamins and he grabbed my hand and caused the vitamins to spill on the table and floor. I didn’t even try to brush his teeth. He got in the car without difficulty.

This morning when we woke up at 5:50 am he was very anxious. I moved over closer to him in the bed and he calmed down for about 10 minutes. The alarm went off at 6 am and then he was restless for the next 20 minutes having some little spells and a lot of jerking and twitching. This was much more than any normal twitching as you fall asleep. He finally got up to the bathroom and did ok after that.

Then at breakfast he did well until it was time for me to help him with the last of the milk in the bowl. Then he said, “No!” and wouldn’t open his mouth. I tried to get him to drink his juicer and he said “No!” again over several times. I didn’t’ even try to give him his vitamins. When we went to brush teeth he wouldn’t open his mouth. Because I only have one hand I couldn’t hold him still to get the tooth brush in his mouth. Again he got into the car without problems.
