Another Partial Seizure

Rick had another spell today. Bev, his sister, is here and so Rick had stayed home to be with her. I was working and he and Bev were in the living room.

Bev called, “Joyce!” I knew something was happening. As soon as I could, I hung up with my phone call and went out. Rick was standing in the living room and Bev was trying to get him to come with her. Each time she reached for him he would move away. I went to him. His eyes were glassy and he was jerking, separate body parts, arm, shoulder, leg, etc. I was able to get him to sit down in his chair but he was moving rather stiffly. He continued to jerk while sitting and remained glassy eyed. He kept trying to get up, but we kept him still.

This lasted about 15 minutes. Then he began to chuckle and try to converse with Bev.

I was on the phone with Dr. Pearce. He said that his brain must be getting worse and the medicine isn’t working anymore.

Dr Pearce is going to send some Topamax samples home with Cade, our son in law, today for Rick to start 25 mg bid for 3-4 days and then go up to 50 mg bid. Hopefully this will help.

Rick finally got up and went to the kitchen and ate a good lunch. He went to the bathroom after lunch.

Partial seizure?

Last night Rick woke up about 2 am. He went to the bathroom but when he came back to bed he acted seizurish for about 30 minutes or so. He had that glazed look on his face and he tossed and turned in the bed. He would have gotten up if I had let him. He had severe body twitching. Finally he settled down and went to sleep.

Then at 6 am he woke up with a start and started moaning. Again he had severe body twitching. Sometimes he would hold his breath. This was a little different than the earlier episode. I felt this could actually be a seizure, just not the grand mal. It lasted about 10 minutes and then he went back to sleep. It is 8 am now and he is still sleeping. He hasn’t had his meds yet this morning.
